DUNBOYNE 'COW PARK'

" The local "Cowpark" lands are on the Station Rd., the Dunboyne side of Greens timber yard on the right-hand side as you go towards Loughsallagh/Clonee. These lands have been operated by a group of Trustees on behalf of the Dept.of Agriculture providing grazing lands to local families who opted to put stock on the land. The Dept. has now decided to divest itself of these lands - and of several such areas of lands throughout Meath at least.

The Trustees invited Brian Rennick, Solr. to convene discussions with local sports clubs and associations with a view of obtaining the lands for sport/recreational purposes from the Dept. rather than allowing them pass to private ownership or for development. As an aside the acquisition of the lands for sports facilities would go towards the objective of maintaining a green-belt between Dunboyne and any adjacent land developments.

A committee comprising representatives from the clubs and organisations has been formed and are lobbying to ensure that the lands are passed for sports and recreational purposes. Draft layout plans for the lands comprising a range of pitches, car parking and changing facilities is being prepared. In addition options as to the ownership and management of the lands in the new environment are also being drawn up. Thes plans and proposals will be submitted to the Dept.in the next few weeks. The Minister for Agriculture is due to decide on the future of the lands within the next few months.

All members of the community are asked to support this initiative by lobbying the local county councillors and TDs.
