MILLENIUM PLANS

DUNBOYNE MILLENNIUM PLANS UPDATE, DEC 22, 1999

Millennium Tree Planting

Residents of Mill Farm Estate last week planted 400 broadleaf trees to enhance their neighbourhood environment. The project was sponsored by Bord Gais in partnership with Conservation Volunteers Ireland as part of the Urban Forestation Campaign. The Mill Farm Residents Association spokesman, Michael Kavanagh, said they were delighted to have been chosen for the project which should enhance the estate.

The DCRA affiliated Associations throughout Dunboyne have thrown their weight behind the Millennium Committee in its efforts to raise money for New Year's Eve celebrations in the village. Details are below. Other events will be arranged throughout 2000.

At DCRA we will be doing our bit to help by selling tickets door to door in our member estate for a bit Raffle which is being planned at present. The tickets will cost £5 each and will be sold of the coming weeks. Prizes are excellent and your support would be greatly appreciated.

DUNBOYNE MILLENNIUM FAMILY BOOK :

As its contribution to the celebration of the Millennium DCRA will compile a Family Book. Each family in the postal district of Dunboyne will be invited to contribute a family page. All pages returned will be bound and put on permanent display in Dunboyne for all present and future generations to enjoy.

Pages for the Dunboyne Millennium Family Book will be distributed in February 2000. Each family will be asked to complete a page and to return it for binding - unaltered.

Already with widespread support across the Community the organisers intend to host live music from the car park off the village green. For further information, contact Martin Regan of the Dunboyne Millennium Community Committee; - Phone +353.1.8255792 Fax: +353.1.8252717.

MILLENNIUM CELEBRATIONS :

DCRA is delighted to support the "Millennium Committee" is its initiative to make 31st December 1999 a night to remember right here in Dunboyne Village.

Already with fantastic support accross the Community the organisers intend to host live music from the car park off the Village Green from approx. 10pm - 2am with a large fireworks display to mark the dawning of a new Millennium. There will be no charge and all, including young families, are welcome.

Funding is not expected to be a problem with many local businesses in support - it is hoped that each of the approx. 100 local companies / traders will donate £100 each to sponsor the event - however, all donations will of course be gratefully received.

All local organisations - i.e. the various sports clubs and other voluntary groups are being urged to host fundraisers - Barbeques - Race Nights etc in the coming months and donate the proceeds.

Any excess funding will be distributed next year to local deserving groups. If you want to become involved or can offer some practical / financial assistant the committee would be delighted to hear from you …. It is a lovely idea that for those of us who will stay home to celebrate the big night - celebrations will be held right on our door step making it a really special night which I'm sure will go down in memory for many years to come.

So, ……….. COME ON ! ……… PARTY LIKE IT'S 1999 !!!!!!!!!!

A NOTE FROM THE DUNBOYNE COMMUNITY YEAR 2000 COMMITTEE :

The Millennium Celebrations throughout the world on New Years Eve promise to be the biggest ever party in the history of the world. However, amid all the hype and ballyhoo, the concept of a community, family based celebration seems to have been forgotten.

Which is why a number of local residents have come together to plan our own unique Dunboyne Millennium Celebration, geared towards the whole family and very much with a local, personal theme.

What we envisage is a special outdoor 'Village Party' taking place in the final hours of the old millennium and ringing in the new age in style. It will include the best of local bands and enertainers, plus a spectacular fireworks display that's bound to keep young and old enthralled. We have already enlisted the co-operationof the Gardai, the Combined Residents Association and numerous sports clubs and associations.

The local publicans have already committed to a series of fund-raising events, but we urgently need your support if we are to make this dream a reality.

We have opened a special account in Allied Irish Bank in Dunboyne Sort Code 93-23-96 Account No. 30202085 - Monsignor Dunne has kindly agreed to act as a trustee for the project. Any surplus funds raised by the Committee will be donated to the local Social Services.

We hope you can help us usher in a new era of prosperity and development for the entire community.

best regards,

Martin Regan - Chairman
