27th August 1999 Update: In our recent submission to Meath County Council DCRA have presented a strong case for the preservation of the Castle and its grounds for leisure and community use only.

The lands of Dunboyne Castle are amongst the finest in Meath with stately trees and rolling parkland. What a shame if these were to become yet another housing estate. In the distant past this estate and its grounds contained the village of Dunboyne. In later years its presence on the south side brought the countryside right into the heart of the village.

If we are to have more developments let them complement Dunboyne, not destroy its green and pleasant environment, an oasis from the hustle and bustle of Dublin and its environs.

The eighty acres approximately of the estate are currently zoned for agriculture but are coming under threat for development. DCRA will strongly oppose any rezoning of this estate prior to or subsequent to the development of a new County Meath Development Plan.
