Subject: New Planning Alliance Group Formed

A new South Meath Planning Alliance was formed last week. Representatives, mainly from Residents Associations, attended from Ashbourne, Dunboyne, Ratoath, Kilcock and Clonee.

The reason for the establishment of the South Meath Planning Alliance is in response to widespread concern expressed by communities in South Meath with the performance of the six local County Councillors on planning and development issues and their failure to represent the expressed interests and concerns of South Meath local communities on these issues.

The purpose of the South Meath Planning Alliance is:

To give mutual support on matters of planning and development affecting communities in the South Meath area.

To address a broad agenda to achieve proper planning and sustainable development in South Meath.

To make representations to Meath County Council in respect of planning, development and environmental issues.

To promote awareness of planning, development and environmental matters affecting residents of South Meath and to encourage the active involvement of local communities.

To liaise with other representative bodies to achieve the above objectives.

The South Meath Planning Alliance will not be politically aligned.

Representatives from all areas expressed dissatisfaction with the six local councillors' failure to represent the views of local communities during the current Meath County Council Development Plan review.

It was therefore agreed that these County Councillors should forthwith resign.

Secondly, it was agreed that the Alliance should run candidates in the forthcoming General Election and future local elections.
